چکیده

Methods for rendering falling snow typically use particle systems [Reeves 1983] which requires tens of thousands of particles (snowflakes) and thus can be expensive. Here we present an alternative method for rendering falling snow which does not use particles, and instead uses an inverse Fourier transform. Our idea is based on a well-known fact that pure image translation with velocity (vx,vy) pixels/frame produces a plane of energy,

A Spectral-particle hybrid method for rendering falling snow

Falling snow has the visual property that it is simultaneously a set of discrete moving particles as well as a dynamic texture. To capture the dynamic texture properties of falling snow using particle systems can, however, require so many particles that it severely impacts rendering rates. Here we address this limitation by rendering the texture properties directly. We use a standard particle s...

Poster:Continuous FVR of Irregularly Sampled Data Using Gaussian RBFs

We describe a Fourier Volume Rendering (FVR) algorithm for datasets that are irregularly sampled and require anisotropic (e.g., elliptical) kernels for reconstruction. We sample the continuous frequency spectrum of such datasets by computing the continuous Fourier transform of the spatial interpolation kernel which is a radially symmetric Gaussian basis function (RBF) that may be anisotropicall...

Volume Rendering using the Fourier Projection-Slice Theorem

The Fourier projection-slice theorem states that the inverse transform of a slice extracted from the frequency domain representation of a volume yields a projection of the volume in a direction perpendicular to the slice. This theorem allows the generation of attenuation-only renderings of volume data in O (N 2 log N) time for a volume of size N . In this paper, we show how more realistic rende...
